IMPRESSION

IMPRESSION SPEECH
[To the 2014 SDN SSG Division Wide Congress]
[Alegria National High School]
[August 22-24, 2014]

1.       My due respect to the student-participants, colleagues in the Division, and organizers of this 2014 SDN SSG Division Wide Congress. Good morning everyone!

2.       This is not my first anxiety being delegated to give impression to such a huge activity, but giving impression speech before well-verse individuals such as these leaders of the SSG in the Division, is another thing. It seems Mr. Tom Paredes, my friend and colleague in the academe, is delegating me a “do or die” speech! Anyhow, this is but my honest observation and general impression. Let me enumerate it in ordinal order.

3.       First off, the Congress that is taking place three days until today serve its prime purpose to inculcate, develop, enhance the management and leadership skills and attitudes as elected SSG officers of their respective schools. If my memory is serving me right, this Congress is the first among other past congresses that incorporates Plenary Sessions and Workshop activities that will equip our student-leaders the basics of leadership. I am delighted to listen to the brilliant Resource Speakers, who enable to deliver their expertise and experience as scholastic achievers and leaders. However, while this pool of speakers succeeded to feed the minds of their listeners with their meaty presentations, the ennui of the participants was getting evident due to a lengthy allocation of lecture time rather than for the workshop discussions. For me, it is better to give the participants ample time to engage more in workshop activities to enable them to plan out feasible programs and lay out doable projects of their organizations.

4.       Second off, the venue, Alegria NHS really gives an ambiance of learning. Its environment is enticing for the student-leaders to acquaint each other. It is indeed conducive to facilitate lectures, discussions and sharing of thoughts among the attending participants. I was flabbergasted by the school DLC as they welcomed the participants on the way to the school gate. The accommodation is quiet commendable. Though there were unforeseen occurrences, like water shortage, and some others that hindered personal comfort and necessities, the cordiality of the organizers, faculty and staff, and host officers were well-appreciated. You all did a good job!

5.       Third off, the Schedule of Activities was carried out as planned. However, time management has to be observed properly. Nonetheless, this is inevitable. I admit and I presume that everybody would agree that time management is common and typical of all predicaments an activity like this could expect for.

6.       Fourth off, the Food/Catering Services is commendable. They served us good, sumptuous, mouth-watering, diabetes-friendly and weight-enhancer foods. The delicacies served during Snack Time are also delicious. I just don’t know why some Breakfast[s] and Dinner[s] are not served during the entire activity.

7.       Lastly, In behalf of the participating faculty-advisers, I would like to extend our warm felicitations and heartfelt gratitude to Alegria National High School Administration under the leadership of Sir Madjos, to Mr FT Paredes and his active SSG personnel for accepting this tedious job with big smiles, light hearts, and enormous dedication. In your cooperation as a host, I see leadership by example. I see genuine student-leaders that could contribute to a great leap for change from the usual and monotonous practices of SSG management in the Division and in the entire Philippine nation. We are challenged the way you strive to equip our student-leaders the knowledge and learning they must possess in running their respective SSG. Allow me to conclude this speech quoting Henry Ford’s popular maxim that goes, “Anyone who keeps learning, stays young”. May we all keep the fire burning! Be seeing you all again next year for the 2015 SDN SSG Division Wide Congress. Mabuhay po tayong lahat!
